About

The Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics of the University of Patras (LAPUP) was founded in 1968 (Royal Decree 85/68). Its first Director was Dimitrios Ilias, Full Professor and Chair of Atmospheric Physics at the School of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Patras, who served from 1971 to 1989.

The Laboratory’s most recent Internal Operating Regulations were approved in 2007 (Government Gazette, Series II, 2513/31.12.2007). It is active in both teaching and research in the fields of Atmospheric Physics, Meteorology, Climatology, and Environmental Physics.

Members of the Laboratory teach core undergraduate courses in the Department of Physics, as well as courses within the “Energy & Environment” undergraduate track.

In 2018, on the Laboratory’s initiative, a postgraduate specialization in Applied Meteorology and Environmental Physics was established.

The Laboratory’s activities include the implementation of international and national research projects, as well as the provision of services in Atmospheric Physics, Meteorology, and Climatology.
